History

United Christian Ministries was formed in 1989 by a group of area church leaders realizing the need for a cooperative ministry to meet the basic needs of persons in crisis in Pickens County and the area of northern Anderson County known as Powdersville. The founders recognized the value of combining their resources and developing a system of record keeping and accountability to best address genuine needs of their neighbors.

UCM opened its doors to persons in need in July 1989 with approximately forty-eight supporting churches. Presently, over 80 area churches provide resources through faithful financial gifts, donations of food and clothing, and sending wonderful volunteers who are truly the hearts and hands of UCM services.

In late 2011, UCM joined with Samaritan Health Clinic (SHC) to form the collaboration known as Good Samaritan Alliance. January 2003 marked a significant milestone for UCM as we moved to our present home which is shared by both UCM and SHC.
