School Supply Outreach
UCM accepts donations of new school supplies and backpacks during the summer months. These donations are then distributed to guidance counselors throughout the School District of Pickens County as well as some schools in the Powdersville area at the beginning of the new school year. Guidance counselors put the supplies directly into the hands of the students in need. This tremendous outreach effort provides much needed supplies to over 1,000 students each year.
Summer Cooling Relief
Each summer we encounter many within our community who cannot afford the increased electric bills resulting from running air conditioning. And yes, we also encounter those who do not have air conditioning. UCM distributes box fans to these families to provide some relief during the hot summer months. Donations of new 20 inch box fans are accepted at UCM throughout the summer season.
Christmas Dinner Boxes
As UCM focuses on keeping our neighbors warm and fed during the winter months, we enjoy providing a special treat each Christmas season. Christmas Dinner Boxes are composed of a specific list of nonperishable food items as well as a ham or turkey. Families seeking UCM services during December are given these boxes so they may provide a special Christmas dinner for their families. The success of this outreach depends on donations of the dinner box items and financial gifts for the purchase of turkeys and hams. A list of needed Christmas Dinner Box items will be posted in November.
Winter Warmth Items
Winter temperatures are just around the corner and YOU can help children and adults right here in Pickens County stay safely warm this winter! Consider sponsoring a donation drive for new blankets, winter hats, or gloves. Is your coat closet overflowing with outgrown or rarely worn winter coats? UCM will put your clean, gently used winter coats in the hands of adults and children who visit UCM this winter.
